Vegas Market

Wow, they really do things big in Vegas. This past weekend Propac Images asked me to come to Vegas for the World Market trade show to paint live and sign limited edition prints. I thought I knew what to expect from a trade show, but this was no ordinary show. It was gigantic. The World Market in Vegas, where the event is housed, is comprised of four huge buildings (as tall as sixteen stories) all packed with showrooms on every floor. I had the chance to walk around a bit to look at some of the other showrooms, but even during my two hour tour I only made it through about one twentieth of what there was to see.

Something New

This piece is going to a show at Alpine Art that opens this Friday, August 21st. It's been a while since I've felt like I branched into something new and this painting feels fresh to me. I realize that it's still in the same vein of the genre that I've been working in for a long time, but I came about it at a different angle and the result is exciting to me. I'm hoping to get a good response from it because I'd like to paint more pieces that are similar to it.

Writing

My friends and family know that I'm a very fickle person, flitting from one project to another; one passion to the next. My poor art has been put on the back burner for the past couple of months as I've been working on some writing projects (my other art form). But not to worry, I finished the short story and the essay that I was writing for the Writers @ Work Fellowship contest that I enter every year and now I will hunker down and get back to working with brushes again.

Goodbye to Summer

This painting isn't the only thing saying goodbye to summer, or goodbye to fall for that matter. This morning I awoke to a couple of inches of snow and large, white flakes have continued to fall all morning (I'm certainly not ready for the snow yet). This painting will be making its way to Monsoon Gallery in Pennsylvania.

Like a Blank Canvas

Why is it that people use the metaphor of a blank canvas as a thing filled with hope? I look at it as a sign of work, work, work. I just remembered last night that the deadline to submit pieces to the Holiday art show for Evergreen Gallery had snuck up on me and now look at the pieces I need to finish by the end of the day.

One For Me

I finally got around to painting something for my family room. I had to do some paintings for a gallery stroll that Paisley Pomegranate was being a part of, and it was a perfect excuse for me to paint this for myself. If I hadn't had that deadline I would have never gotten around to doing it. I still haven't painted a new painting for my living room since I gave away the piece that was hanging there to a friend of mine more than six months ago.

Awash in Blue

As the title to these paintings suggest, I really have been awash in blue lately. Ever since I completed the blue commission a few weeks ago I've been a little addicted to these colors. I just sent a few of these pieces off to Monsoon Gallery in Pennsylvania. I hope someone else shares my interest in these blues.
